BALI – An Australian national identified by the initials SDJ, 57, was found dead after allegedly hanging himself inside a bungalow on Jalan Three Brothers, Legian Tengah, Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Sunday (September 13, 2026).

Two children, identified as ADS, 7, and LKS, 4, were also found dead inside the same bungalow. The two children, who were Indonesian citizens, are suspected to have died as a result of violence.

The incident was discovered at around 10:14 a.m. local time at Arca Bungalow in the Legian area.

The incident came to light after a witness, Nur Khamid, 51, received a phone call at around 8:30 a.m. from a woman who identified herself as SDJ's wife, who was in Jakarta.

During the call, the woman asked the witness to check on her husband and their two children because they could not be reached.

Nur Khamid then went to the bungalow and tried to look inside through a window. However, he saw no signs of activity or anyone inside.

He subsequently contacted the bungalow owner and informed him about the situation. The two then returned to the bungalow to conduct another check.

After finding no response, the bungalow owner contacted the local community leader. The community leader and several residents then arrived at the location.

The residents knocked and banged on the door while calling out to the occupants, but received no response.

Concerned that something might have happened, they eventually forced the door open.

Inside, they found SDJ hanging from an iron window grille using a white electrical iron cable. Meanwhile, the two children were found lying on the bedroom floor, with their bodies positioned on top of one another.

Police officers who arrived at the scene conducted a crime scene investigation together with the Denpasar Police Identification Team.

Based on an initial external examination, police suspected that SDJ had died by suicide through hanging. Meanwhile, the two children were suspected of having died as a result of violence.

However, police have stressed that the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation.

The three bodies were taken to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar for further examination and handling.

Denpasar Police Chief Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang confirmed the incident and said investigators from Kuta Police were continuing to gather evidence.

“Investigators are still conducting examinations, including processing the crime scene, reviewing CCTV footage at the location, and questioning witnesses, including the victim's wife, to determine the cause of the deaths,” Leonardo said.

Police have also questioned the victim's wife and examined CCTV footage around the bungalow.

Given that SDJ was an Australian citizen, police have coordinated with the Australian Consulate regarding the case.

The investigation remains ongoing to establish the circumstances and exact causes of death of the Australian national and his two children.
